i live in a different state than the company i work for,in what state do i need to obtain an attorney

What Attorney Robert Louque has answered you is absolutely correct; however, if you are seeking to avoid having to go to that state to pursue your claim, you should check out the Worker's Compensation Venue statutes of that state, and you might find that the place you were hired from--possibly your home state--is also a proper venue (place) to file and pursue your claim. You would normally file your claim in the state where you were injured.
