Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

Public Defender vs. Private Atty. for 1st time Drug Possession

Ventura County - 19-year-old male pulled over for minor traffic violation (illegal U-turn). Permission to search vehicle requested for but refused. Search conducted anyway based on open pocket knife on seat. Less than 1 oz. Hashish found in glove compartment, resulting in felony possession charge.

In this instance, would a private attorney be recommended over a public defender? In either case, what can be expected?

Private attorneys have an advantage over public defenders. First you will know what attorney will be with you in court. Also the private attorney will have more time to devote to your case.

Thank you for your question. You have become involved in a very serious matter with quite harsh potential consequences. Thus, you should also get serious about your response. In my experience (which is now over 28 years) a Private Attorney will not only have more time to devote to your case, but will also be more directly responsive to your needs---in terms of answering your questions, consulting directly with you about your defense, and involving you in the decisions which will decide the result. If you would like to have a free consultation just phone me at (562) 754-7422 or contact me thru my website. Thanks, George
