Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

Shoplifted at Urban Outfitters

I got caught shoplifting for $18 jewelry. They didn't call the police and I told them I purchased them that same day at a different store. I gave them wrong address and name. But called then next day and told them I couldn't find the receipyt. She said they will send it to their legal and I will be contacted. I provided a new address (my work one) but my SS# is still wrong on their file, so is my phone number. No prior incidents. I am scared and don't know what I should do. The store gave me the number on my civil demand notice ,should I call and ask them what happenes next? please help

Re: Shoplifted at Urban Outfitters

Resolving the civil issue does not ensure that you will not be criminally prosecuted since each is a separate matter. Although Urban Outfitters does not possess all of your correct information, they do possess a correct mailing address, which will be used to mail you a notice to appear in court should they wish to proceed with criminal action. If you would like to discuss this matter by phone, please do not hesitate to contact me at 800.327.4652.

Re: Shoplifted at Urban Outfitters

Do not speak to the store or the police. If you are convicted of theft, probably you won't work again.
