Legal Question in Disability Law in California

Bipolar Disorder + School

First of all, I have bipolar and have

been diagnosed as such for the past

three years. Two years ago was

attending a private christian

university and towards the end of

one quarter I had an episode where I

broke another students window. I

was taken to a mental facility for one

week as a result of the incident.

During the summer I spent many

months determining the best combination of drugs to reduce the

possibility of another episode. Since

then, I have yet to experience

another episode like the one prior.

However, I am currently trying to

gain access as an alumni to the

university. The university, though,

does not want me to be on their

property. We have had many talks

over the past year and they still see

me as a liability. All I want is to be

able to access the library system, the

attend concerts, art exhibitions and

drama performances. Under ADA law,

would this be a type of discrimination

and could I seek legal help to allow

me on the premises?

Re: Bipolar Disorder + School

"Discrimination"? Sounds like you were barred because of committing a crime; a good reason in most people's book. That is their private property, and they can limit access and use to anyone they chose, just like stores and other businesses. Disobey at the risk of arrest for trespass.
