Legal Question in Disability Law in California

Hello, My son rents a house in LA with four other students. They received the water bill and it was $600.00 (two months) They called the landlord who sent a plumber and they found a broken garden sprinkler line under the house. It was repaired shortly after and since it was not noticed for three months.....they just received the last two month bill and it was $1002.00. My question is....Who is responsible for paying that water bill ? The landlord told me she would split it with me ? Thanks, Greg in Northern Cal
