Legal Question in Administrative Law in California

Help!

I'm a court reporter working on an arbitration hearing. I have a question about something a witness, who is an attorney, said. I did ask him if what I wrote was correct and he said it was. I'm just double-checking because that's how us court reporters are.

(FOLLOWING IS AN EXCERPT FROM TRANSCRIPT)

Q What was the case set for on that day?

A It had been in a trade and trial status

Q could you tell us what does that mean

A I was going to be the next case tried in that court.

My question is ''trade and trial status'' -- is that correct?

Thank you so much!!!!

Re: Help!

Possibly the word is "trail" not "trade." I am a transactional not a litigation attorney, but I believe cases are sometimes scheduled for trial "to trail" another unrelated case (or possibly even a related case), meaning the parties have to be ready to go whenever the leading case is completed, or settles. This trial-scheduling method allows closer dovetailing of cases and conserves courtroom availability.
