Legal Question in Administrative Law in California

Finding a person who has changed her name

Hi. I am looking for a woman from Orinda, California who, at age 16, murdered her classmate. She went to a juvenile prison in Ventura and was released around 1992. She then legally changed her name, and I cannot find any trace of her. I have heard that name changes are a matter of public record, but I have called the courts she would have probably had it done at and they had no record of the name change. I am guessing her record is, for some reason confidential. Is there any other way that I can find out what she changed her name to? Please help; I'd really like to know of her whereabouts.

P.S. I have no idea what area of law this belongs it.

The court clerks aren't going to do research for you on a phone call. Go to the clerk's office - I would start with Ventura - or hire a private investigator.

You're looking for Bernadette Protti? You can get all the public information including the former name I just came up with on the Internet. If ther current name is a secret, probably with good reason. People who are looking for her might be intending to take justice into their own hands.
