Legal Question in Administrative Law in California

Leasing Agreements

A roommate and I signed a year apartment lease. He moved out of state ostensibly to work for a couple months insisting he would mail rent money to me. He hasn't mailed money yet, and I don't believe he will. We still have six months on the lease. Do I have any legal recourse agaisnt this former roommate?

I am unable to pay the entire abmount, and am in a panic.

Thank you

Re: Leasing Agreements

Yes, your roommate is liable to you for his 1/2 share of the rent.

As you may know, if you're both listed as tenants on the lease and the lease doesn't provide otherwise, you're both liable to the landlord, who can collect 100% from either of you at his option.
