Legal Question in Appeals and Writs in California

outrageous fees

I recently lost an arbitration and the opposing attorney is able to recover fees. The fees he submitted to the arbitration board are extremely excessive and even exceeded the amount of the dispute itself. What can be done about this?

It is clear he padded his fees to an exhorbinant amount

Thank you for your help

Re: outrageous fees

You should hire an attorney to contact the Arbitrator and opposing attorney to set up Motion to Tax Costs. The time for filing this Motion may be short. Please call me if you have any other questions.

Re: outrageous fees

You should challenge the fee claim as Mr. Selik and Mr. Rothman have suggested.

there is nothing inherently wrong with a fee claim that exceeds the value of the underlying dispute. This happens fairly often, especially where the dispute is over a modest amount of money. If this is the sole basis on which you claim that the fees sought are excessive, you are likely to lose.
