Legal Question in Banking Law in California

Privacy Issue

Recently, a credit card company called my house when I was late with a payment and not there at the time of the call. My wife answered and in the course of the conversation, the Discover Card rep. revealed details about my purchases as well as presumed it was ok to withdraw money from my personal checking account which is on file with them. How can this be legal, much less ethical? They revealed private information as well as withdrew money without so much as a word with me.

Re: Privacy Issue

It is quite resonable for the creditor expect to be able to discuss the account with your wife and I see nothing wrong with what was discussed. And quite frankly, I don't really believe that the Discover card agent "assumed" anything about taking money from you account. I believe your wife gave them permission to take the money to make the payment. I do not believe you have any legitimate claims based on the facts as presented.
