Legal Question in Banking Law in California

un-paid debt

I recieved a letter from a collection agency,stating they had bought a debt

from a creditor.Dating the debt from 1985.i have not recieved any bill,or

request for payment since that year,but they have requested the debt be

pated now.What is my legal standing?

If you have not acknowledged this debt or made any payments toward that debt since 1985, then the statute of limitations has expired completely in your favor here. This third party creditor has no procedural standing whatsover, and can be made to stop contacting or harassing you under FDCPA laws firmly in place to protect you from this type of "nonsense".
