Legal Question in Bankruptcy in California

bankruptcy

i filed for bankruptcy last july of 1999 and was discharged on the same year. This time, my financial status is so shaky and very bad that i am contemplating on filing for bankruptcy again. is this possible ?

The new laws require debtors to wait 8 years before being eligible to receive another Chapter 7 discharge. Under section 727(a)(8) of the Bankruptcy Code, the 8 year period runs from the original filing date of your prior Chapter 7 case. If you meet the current qualifications for a Chapter 7 case, you are legally eligible to receive another Chapter 7 discharge.

Depending upon whether you qualify, you would not be barred by the 8-year requirement.
