Just for a short time. The lawsuits become property of the bankruptcy estate. The bankruptcy trustee could hire his/her own attorney to pursue, settle them for pennies on the dollar, or could allow you to continue with your own attorney. I would suggest that, if you're contemplating bankruptcy, have your attorney in the lawsuit speak with your bankruptcy attorney to work out a strategy for approaching the issue with the bankruptcy trustee. Good luck!
