Legal Question in Bankruptcy in California

lawsuit help please

I credit card company filed a lawsuit against me in another county that i no longer live at. I wasnt notified because i didnt give them an updated address. The suit was settled without me, can i delcare bankruptcy or did i need to do that before the lawsuit?

Unless the credit had been extended because of your fraud, the debt should be dischargeable in bankruptcy. The fact that it has turned into a judgment should be of no significance, unless it also has become a lien against real property (real estate) that you own.
