Legal Question in Bankruptcy in California

monies received after filing chapter 7

I went to court to finish my chapter 7, i guess it was a meeting of creditors.

If a relative dies and i receive $5000.00 from her death(insurance policy) will the court keep it? and I included myself in a claim on a class action lawsuit. This was for missed wages from my employer. They claimed we were exempt from overtime here in california, which turned out to b false. If the final settlement of that gets approved by the court it is in, and I receive back wages in 90-120 days, will i have to return that money to the court as well?

Thanks

Re: monies received after filing chapter 7

If you receive the inheritance within 6 months of the filing of your case, it is property of the bankruptcy estate and subject to being taken unless you have taken an exemption for it in schedule "C". The class action lawsuit should have been listed as an asset in your petition and exempted as well. Without seeing what you put in your paperwork, I can't answer your questions further.
