Legal Question in Business Law in California

Contract Agreement between self-publishing author and illustrator (me)

The contract states ''The Illustrator (me) releases (the author and stated representative) from any responsibilities relating to any legal actions incurred by the contents of the Work.'' What does that mean? What am I claiming responsibilty for?

The lawyer (me) does not attempt to interpret contract fragments. Bring the whole contract to a lawyer in person.

It probably means that if someone sues over the illustrations, you are responsible for defending and paying any costs and judgments. If you need legal help in negotiating the contract, contact me.
