Legal Question in Business Law in California

Failure to pay consulting fees

I had been hired as a consultant, and signed an Independent Contractor Agreement provided to me by the client company.

The contract specified services and compensation, as well as the term of the agreement. I was to be paid a monthly fee of $7,500. The term of the agreement was six months, terminated upon thirty days notice by either party for any reason.

I was paid for the first two months of consulting. At the end of the third month, the company informed me that the project that I was working on had been put on hold, and that my services were no longer needed.

I was sent a letter from the company's counsel containing a letter stating that the company believed I had not delivered some of the services outlined in the agreement, and an offer to pay the last month's consulting fee only upon the signing of an included release agreement, freeing the company from further obligations.

I am very confidant that I can prove that I had delivered the services outlined in the consulting agreement.

Since the total ammount that I claim is due, $15,000, is too high for small claims court, what is my legal recourse?

you can still go small claims but you would waive 10K. the other option is to go to regular court.

Have an attorney review the contract. If it appears that you have a case, go forward. Sometimes a letter from another attorney will help them find their pen to write a check with.
