How can I find out who owns a company, an LLC? I understand the company is supposed to keep a list of the owners, the principals, but it's not clear if a member of the public can get those. I did get the Statement of Information from the SOS, but it seems they can write down either "managers" or "members" on that form.
Since LLCs are not public companies, the only information available is what you have already pulled off the Secretary of State website.
The records of an LLC may be inspected by members and others with an economic interest (as non-member owners by inheritance, for example) as permitted by statute. There is no statute or other right allowing a non-owner to inspect the records or learn the identity of the owners without a court order, and courts won't make such orders absent a very good reason.
