Legal Question in Business Law in California

Hello,

I purchased a vehicle from a dealer. I waited several months and did not receive my license plates, registration, or any documents from the dmv. I called them and was told that my vehicle that I purchased off of the lot had not been smogged and the registratioin hadn't been paid since 2008. They said I owed over $1800 for registration along with having to go get my car smogged. I immediately contacted the dealer but my attempts were only answered with text messages saying that it would be done. The dealer told me to smog my car and once I did that notify him so he could take care of the rest. I did as he requested and am still waiting for results. It is my everyday vehicle and need it taken care of right away. Also if i were to get pulled over with no registration the police would tow my car, and this is would cost my more money that I don't have for that purpose. I have to drive to work! Is there anything that can be done to get this taken care of?

I'd suggest a complaint in Small Claims Court. Cheap, quick and efficient, but you'll be on your own (no lawyers), so get a book and read up on how to file, serve, try, win and collect in California small claims.......good papersbacks by Nolo Press and others. Sometimes just filing and serving your suit gets action.
