Legal Question in Business Law in California

Item sold at auction my ''mistake''

I purchased an item at a hospital liquidation auction; paid the purchase price; and, took posession. The auction house contacted me to say the hospital put the item in the auction by mistake and now wants it back saying they will reimburse me for the purchase and shipping costs. I have a buyer for this item and my profit will be over $10,000. Do I have legal title to the equipment? I am a resident of California but the auction took place in New York.

Sounds like you are the legal owner and can do what you please, as long as you have paperwork from the auction confirming your proper purchase.

Mr. Nelson is probably right. However, since the auction took place in New York, it is governed by New York law. Mr. Nelson and I are both based in California, where the law may be different. I suggest re-posting your question so New York lawyers will see it.
