Legal Question in Business Law in California

Do lawyer do community services using their knowldege & service

Hi

I am a founder of a Start- up NPO for community service. We are at our start-up phase and have no outside funding and using personal resources & funds for this start-up.We need to incorporate our NPO & also appoint a Legal Advisor who will be part of 0ur Board of advisors. I was wondering do the lawyer also volunteer to do help community through their skills & knowledge. If yes where can we find such individuals. How can we seek legal help for community service without paying fee.

Many attorneys offer community service - it is called pro bono. You can contact your county's bar association for a good start.

Many attorneys, such as myself, do many hundreds of community service (pro bono) work each year.

With a non profit as you describe, normally, the organization already has an attorney who is either involved or interested in your goals and then they become involved.

Otherwise try legal aid.

You may not get all your legal work for free, but there are many attorneys willing to donate their services, including set-up of your non-profit. Check with your city's and county's bar associations, and also with other local nonprofits.
