Legal Question in Business Law in California

My mom made me work at the company she works for as "job training". I have now been doing the exact same thing for 3 months without getting paid. Isn't she required by law to pay me?

How old are you? If you are a minor (under 18) and not "emancipated" by marriage or otherwise, your parents must support you, and have the right to receive your wages. If anyone has a duty to pay you wages, it is the employer, not your mom, but your mom probably has a right to your paychecks anyway. Another aspect I can't comment on because of lack of information is whether your employment was lawful under various child-welfare legislation.

There are a lot of information necessary before we can answer your question properly. In any case, your mothers employer should be the one to compensate you for the work you did and not your mother. If you are a minor or not otherwise emancipated, your mother is entitled to your compensation for the time being as she is your guardian and she is legally bound to support you. However, there is also a question of whether your employment, being a minor, is allowed in your state/area.

We understand your situation and we believe that your case should be given a more thorough evaluation in order to be sure that you get the maximum relief, granted your situation. Accordingly, we would be willing to discuss your case and give you a free consultation to make sure that you are aware of all the important facts surrounding your case, as well as all your legal options to pursue your claim.
