We are a non profit corp in California, We want to sell tickets for a bus ride to sporting events, concerts, bar hopping etc. We want to provide alcohol and food. Do you need any specialty licenses besides are Charitable Corporation papers?

Yes. Your will need (1) a license from the California Alcoholic Beverage Control Board for sale of alcohol; (2) probably, a certificate from the California Public Utilities Commission, which regulates and licenses the intrastate transportation of passengers for hire; and (3) possibly, a license from a local health board for any commercial kitchen or food service operation. Finally, you'd probably need a city or county business license, if you don't already have one. Being a nonprofit charitable corporation does not excuse you from obtaining these licenses and permits.

Yes you will need a lot of licenses and permits for those. As a non-profit corporation, you are generally given some tax incentives but you are not exempted from obtaining licenses and permits if you want to engage in activities regulated by the federal/state government. From what you mentioned, we believe that at the least, you might need license to sell liquor, license or certification to engage in public/event transport and license from a state or county health board for food preparation and sale of food products.
