Legal Question in Business Law in California

Professional Sports Info Usage

I am looking to start a sports website that uses information about professional stadiums. I am going use things such as a map and the name of the stadium. On many sports websites there are discretions stating that ''this site is operated independently of the league'' or ''some of this information has been obtained from the team's website and the images are copyrighted material''. My question is, would a statement like that protect me if I was using the stadium map and information about the stadium?

Generally, disclaimers and statements of ownership of copyrighted material are not sufficient to avoid infringement UNLESS one uses the material with permission. If you contacted the proper owner of the material, and they gave you permission to use the material subject to use of disclaimers or statements of ownership, then it would be legal per your agreement.

This is general information only as I do not have any particular facts of your situation. For a specific opinion, you should retain an attorney in your area to protect your rights.

Good luck to you,

Sarah
