in a civil lawsuit 30 day response to plaintiff, are you able to get an extension on filing the response?

If you contact the plaintiff's lawyer, perhaps you can reach agreement IN WRITING on extending the due date for your responsive pleading. Give the lawyer good cause such as the need to find an attorney, illness, or whatever is going on that would affect the timing of the response.
