Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in California

My girlfriend attemped suicide with pills before we started dating. She was determined to be sane so she was free to go but her right to own a gun was taken away and the police came and took her hand gun that was legal from her moms house where she wasnt living. Now she is going to court like a criminal for having a fire arm and the court has told her she cant have any firearms nor ammo in her possession.

My question is; I own numerous guns and we live together so can the police come and take my guns from me because she lives with me? I dont really understand how our rights are being taken away like this!

The police probably cannot take your guns away from you, however they can probably require that you lock them in a safe, and do not allow your GF to have acess to the key.

Look, every one of us has been there and done that. Psychotic, bipolar, borderline, suicide-attempting, if your GF is in the DSM-IV then she is Serious Bad News. And you propose to add guns to the mix. She will misbehave in some way that attracts the attention of the police, you will be blamed for it, restraining order, guess what, no more guns for you. And that's at best. At worst she does something with one of your guns that gets you sent to prison, or sued. Or she has a baby and the social workers show up to take it. And on and on. There are women out there who aren't nutty. You deserve better.
