Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in California

what kind of legal action can i take if someone was holding my dog for money, and i was not willing to pay so they send it to the dog pound. what happen was their dog came over to my yard and is in heat so my dog follow it home where it was in their yard. when it was in their yard they reach over to grab it for i don't know what reason. when that happen my little pomeranian dog bit an old man and they took it in the house trying to get me to pay them. When i went over to get the dog they wouldn't give it back unless i have money and hold my dog til the dog pound got there. and now i have to pay 300 for it to get out. So i was wondering if i can do something about this?

Yes you may sue them for tresspass of chattle in small claims court.
