Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in California

Promissory Notes

A friend borrowed money and we signed a promissory note. He agreed to pay the full amount with interest by a due date. If the payment was not received in full, he put down his house as a security and stated I become a third lienholder in the event that amount of money is not paid. What legal action or rights do I have since he has not paid the amount due?
