This is very peculiar. I do not know of any court that notifies, or allows parties to notify other parties, by e-mail without the party to be notified having consented to service by e-mail. This could be a joke or fraud......can you at least tell who the sender is? If it looks like the e-mail is originating from a court, then try two things: (1) locate the court's Web site, and look for the case information sub-site to find any case that involves you as a party; and (2) call the clerk of the court, or better yet, visit the court in person to inquire.

If you know of any litigation, or suspect any, involving you, this might be of use in figuring out which court (or which party) is attempting to notify you.

There should be a "hard copy" of anything anyone is attempting to serve on you by e-mail on the court's file, if it is "official" and not some kind of spoof or scam. Your best bet is to determine which court (if any) the e-mail notification pertains to, and go there in person or by Web-site visit and review the case file (or files) containing recent documents addressed to you. Don't hesitate -- get on line today and/or make an in-person visit Monday. This may help: http://www.courts.ca.gov/find-my-court.htm
