Legal Question in Technology Law in California

Re-install Windows 95 Without License

My friend bough an old computer which had Window 95 on the hard drive. But there was no CD software or license of the Windows 95 for that computer. After using the computer for few months, the Windows 95 corrupted. He asked me to re-install Windows 95 (from my CD)onto his hard drive. He believed this would be legal, because that old computer already had Windows 95. I don't know whether using Windows 95 CD to re-install onto his computer is legal or not. Please help. Thank you.
