Legal Question in Constitutional Law in California

ex-felon owning firearms

I am an ex-felon and would like to be able to hunt agin. I am told that I can not own anything that has a trigger mechanism in it. I want to know what I can do in order to own a hunting rifle or a crossbow so that I can go hunting. Is there anything that I can file for to get this privelage back?
