Unfortunately while the Federal authorities appear to be no longer arresting California medical marijuana patients or dispensaries, at least for now, and there is case law supportive of religious (e.g. Rastafarian) use under federal law, I doubt that the federal supervised-release authorities are going to look the other way if they find out you used marijuana regardless of your circumstances. If you feel that marijuana provides relief from a medical condition, or is protected by your religious beliefs, it would behoove you to assemble all appropriate documentation and witnesses in case you have to present them in court.
