Legal Question in Construction Law in California

employee vehicle advertising

My employer sent a letter stating mandatory use of magnetic advertising on my personel vehicle. I use this vehicle to haul material to job sites and they do pay milage. However, the use of such advertising can scratch and deface my vehicle. I have thus far refused to place magnet on my vehicle but may lose my job if I can not submit proof of there possible wrongdoing. Do I have to place on my vehicle, Or can I legally deny them free advertisement?

Re: employee vehicle advertising

You have every right to refuse to put up your employer's sign. However, your employer is paying for the use of your truck and has the right to require that his sign be on any vehicle he is paying for. So, if you refuse, unless you have an employment contract or a union, he can fire you. I suggest you very carefully document the condition of the truck; picture, body shop, whatever, then put the signs on. If the signs cause damage, make a claim
