Legal Question in Construction Law in California

I think that there is some statute that says a law suit trial must start within 5 years of filing the complaint or it is automatically dismissed. Is this correct and, if so, what is the legal term that I can use to look it up?

What you're looking for is California Code of Civil Procedure section 583.360 and the sections that precede it regarding the time by which a case must be brought to trial.
