Legal Question in Construction Law in California

We had some work done to our home and we were not happy with the results. The workers were paid money for the work they did do (they did not finish all of it)and now one of the workers (the boss)is saying we didnt pay him for his work and that if we dont give him $200 he is going to sue us.Does he have a case even though we paid for the work they did do and we agreed to stop the work because their job was not very good something that he also agreed on?

If the total value of the work was $500 or more, and the "workers" did not have a contractors license, they cannot sue you for anything, and you are entitled to be repaid all money you paid them. I suggest you report them to the contractor's state license board.
