Legal Question in Consumer Law in California

deposit kept no contract -RV rental

I hunted on line and by phone for an RV rental place that would allow us to take our dog on a 2 week vacation in a rented motor home with my husband and son. The place i found said yes dogs allowed w/$100 deposit if cleaning for the dog hair or smell was needed. During the same phone call she said she would email me the contract aggreement but she needed $250 to reserve the dates of the rental now. I gave her my debit card number she took the $250.I read the contract(info not given on line) and it was obvious they had themselves set up to all kinds of open ended issues we could be charged for. One of them being an additional $300 for cleaning if the dog had left excesive hair and oder (?!) The same day I emailed her back and told her the reason and asked for my deposit. She said she'd phone me the next day. she didnt. The I emailed once more. No responce and they kept the deposit. Don't they owe me my deposit?

Re: deposit kept no contract -RV rental

RV rental companies, especially the Mom and Pop operations are as bad as residential landlords when it comes to making up bogus reasons for keeping your security deposit. All I can say is, take them to small claims court and/or dispute the charge with your debit card issuer.
