Legal Question in Consumer Law in California

three family member got together and decided to forge my signature to buy 2 cars. I never gave any one of them the permission to do so and I have never in any way benefited from this illegal act. One of them has come forward and admitted to me all details involving the transactions. The cars have since been in default and im assuming they were reposessed. I have not had any contact with these family members since before the crime has taken place except for the on who has given me all the information about the transactions. What can I do about this? I was also made aware that the dealership knew that there was a forgery happening but because their down payments were so large $20,000 The salesperson allowed it. What can I do to clear my name?

Well do you want to turn your family members into the police? If not then your first step would be to write the collection companies when they start calling you and tell them that is not your debt and you are aware someone forged your signature. They may disbelieve for a while but if they sue you make sure you show up at court and prove that you had nothing to o with this and that is not your signature, You may need to hire a handwriting expert to prove your case, but if you can prove where the payments were made from then that should also help indicate you had nothing to do with this.

Good luck and hope that helps.
