Legal Question in Consumer Law in California

I live in California. Recently I paid off a TV that was bought using a "6 months no interest" offer. The due date of the final payment was on a Saturday. The company claimed the payment didn't arrive in time and they are charging a "late penalty". They are not open on Saturday and therefore couldn't determine if the check arrived that day or not.

How can I be sure they didn't have the check on Saturday, or for that matter, how can they ascertain the check wasn't there on the due date?

call the president of the company and insist that the check was timely sent. Do not take no for an answer. The squeaky cog gets greased. Please, forgive the typos (painful hands) Good luck!
