Legal Question in Consumer Law in California

I have been making payments on a timeshare, paying extra each month to go towards the principle payment. On the statement it only has the balance due not how much I payed last month not how paying extra (x-amount) every month would cut payment from 25 yrs to say 3 years. I have to call these people every month to tell them to apply extra towards principle. They still don't get it, they keep saying that me payment isn't due for months later. Not allowing me to pay down my principle...is this legal. Don't they have to follow the same rules as credit card companies?

Have you reviewed the agreement to see what may or may not be done?
