Legal Question in Consumer Law in California

Misrepresentation of Services

Last year, I spoke to a firm that provides a legal service pertaining to taxes. After a preliminary interview, I was ''accepted'' into and and provided a contract to sign. The payment was taken from my account electronically. After 4 months, I finally received a letter indicating that they could not move further on this, because of the information that I provided. Without going into details, I want to reclaim the money that I gave them and identify the laws in place to protect me. Would you be able to direct me to California Code on consumer protection for such a situation? Thank you.

Soprry, but you need to provide more details. You probably do have a good case.

Re: Misrepresentation of Services

California law may not apply. I'd need to know more about the facts of the situation, but since you're located in Virginia, my guess is that you could sue in Virginia for violation of the Virginia Consumer Protection Act and the Virginia Home Solicitation Sales Act. What I'd need to know more about is the details of how you first established contact with the California firm and how you ended up with an agreement.

Is this by any chance the firm that advertises on television - Roni Deutch or some such thing as that?
