Legal Question in Consumer Law in California

I paid my wedding photographer in full before the wedding. The payment included a package which I was to receive two weeks after the wedding. The contract I signed with him includes an exclusivity clause that maintained that no other proffessional photographer was to be retained for the event. However, my husband decided to ask his distant cousin, who is a professional photographer, to take a few photos during the event. Now my photographer is refusing to deliver the package that I paid for because he says that we breached the exclusivity clause in the contract. Can he legally keep my package and my money?

Neither the clause in the contract nor his actions make sense. Hire a lawyer or take him to the small claims court.
