Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

I am in Calfornia (community property), and I am planning to marry my wife who has a significant amount of student loan debt. Am I responsible for the interest accruing on that debt during the marriage? If I earn the only income in the marriage, can creditors go after 50% of my (our) income to pay her debt?

No, this is your wife's separate property/liability. But, you must be sure to never sign anything saying your responsible for the debt. I would also advise against you having joint bank accounts until her debt issues are resolved. It may also be wise to have pre-marital agreement clearly separating your assets and liabilities.
