collecting on a judgement

I need to collect on a judgement from a ex-employer after it was appealed in superior court and I won .Is it cheaper for a lawyer to do it or a collection place that charges 50%? Anyone wants the job please let me know.Im in California and their in VA.

Re: collecting on a judgement

First, I assume you sued them here in California? If so, the first step is registering the judgment in Virginia (as that is where the company is located). I'm not sure if collection firms will do that, so you may have to retain an attorney anyway. Second, the answer to your question really depends upon the amount of the judgment. If it is relatively small, then it would most likely be cheaper to have the collection firm do it - many attorneys do this kind of work on a fixed-fee or hourly basis, and that could very quickly exceed 50% of a small judgment. If the judgment is large, then it might make more sense to have an attorney do it. Finally, you need to probably consult with a VA attorney as the collection efforts will be done in the state of situs for the company. Good luck!
