Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

if my debt has been sold to a collector, can i contact the original creditor to make a settlement? will the collector be forced to back off or can he still try to collect money from me if i agree to settle with original creditor?

Not if it has been truly sold. If the collection agency is working as the agent for the original creditor you can settle with the original creditor if they are willing. If the debt now actually belongs to the collection agency you cannot.
