Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

I have a question regarding a Debt Dispute with the University of xxxx in San Diego.

They claim that I owe them money and I don't agree. The University never contacted me about this matter directly. The first I heard of this was from a Debt collector. Now another collection agency has been harassing me several times a day at work and is threatening to take me to court.

I have asked for them to send me proof that I owe them the money and twice now they have sent me the same "customer account history" that shows that they owe me $1425.40.

The 1st Debt Collection company sent me a letter stating that the University had made an error in Disbursing my financial aid funds (a student loan) and had refunded me money in excess of the amount that I was entitled. The money was returned to the lender, I never received a check from the University.

What can I do about this?

dont sweat it. tell them you'll see them in court. they would have to prove you got the money.
