Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

Forged signature on check

I recently deposited a check for a friend in my checking she forged the signature on the check wich i had no idea I then withdrew the money and gave it to her. Her ex which the check was made out to came forward and went to my bank showed proof of his signature so my bank gave him the money which they took out of my savings account because it being deposited to my checking made me financialy responsible for the money, my bank said i would have to get reimbursed by my friend who gave me the check to deposit. I have contacted the police to make a report but still havent recieved any money from my so called friend of 10 yrs what steps do i have to take to get my money which was 1,113.00. I am a single mother of two and that was all my savings I thought my friend would never do something like this to me I too am a victim in this and just want my money back. Please help!
