Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

How Do I garnish someone's wages?

5 years ago, my ex-wife was instucted to pay me nearly 30K as part of our divorce settlement. To date, I haven't received anything. Is is possible for me (a private citizen) to garnish her wages? She is gainfully employed with the US Govt. Me in California, her in Georgia. Thank you.

Yes. You need to have the judgment in the family law matter domesticated in Georgia and can then proceed with collection through any manner authorized by Georgia law.

Attorney Hoffman is correct. Contact a family law attorney in the county and area where she lives. You will probably have to retain someone there to handle this for you, but over a $30,000 debt, its worth pursuing. You may also be able to recover your attorneys fees as a part of resolving this.
