I have been garnished going on two years for a eviction from 2004, my ex husband rented a apartment. i was just a room mate, never signed a lease, the total was 5,000. this is caused me nothing but hardship being a single mother trying to raise two kids what can i do

If the judgment is against you and the garnishment is legal, then the court system will not provide you with any relief as to the garnishment. You can check to see if the garnishment is indeed proper in terms of the amount being taken from each paycheck, but that's all you can do with respect to it.

If your former husband is also liable for this debt, you can try to collect from him through a small claims proceeding for indemnity.

It may be possible to negotiate the amount taken from your check with the creditor, but I suspect that the creditor is unlikely to agree to a reduction.

You should also contact a legal aid clinic in your area to see if they can provide assistance.
