Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

re; hospital bills

My husband and I are senior citizen with green card status. We have a pre-nup when married 54 yrs ago from a commonwelath country. My husband has no income or bank account here, all monies are in my name. We have limited heath insurance and my husband just had a heart attack and was hospitilized and underwent surgery and stayed there for several days.

As his spouse who cares for him, am i responsible for his hospital debt & can they come after my bank assests?.

Re: re; hospital bills

Since California is a community property state, you are liable for your husband's medical debts. If it comes to it, they could sue you for the amount he owes and eventually get to your assets, including bank accounts.
