Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

How long should it take to have someone served? The person lives in our city and it has been 3 weeks. No word from the attorney? I know all the appropriate paperwork has been filed.

Thank, You.

It depends upon how hard the person being served is trying to avoid service. If this is an eviction, after several attempts to serve you can get an order to post. In general civil litigation, that is not the case, but you can move to get Court permission to publish the summons and complaint. You do not want to do that unless it becomes absolutely necessary because it is expensive, and adds even more time to the process. Have you called your attorney and asked why it is taking so long? Does the process server have a home and work address for the person to be served?
